Why Is the Universe So Vast?
We all know that the universe is enormous.
But sometimes I wonder…
Why?
I mean, if God created it, that’s a ridiculously large space to maintain.
Imagine being responsible for billions of galaxies, trillions of stars and countless planets.
“Sorry, Universe maintenance is delayed this week.” 😂
But perhaps there is another fascinating explanation for why reality could be so enormous.
What If Every Decision Creates a New Universe?
There is a fascinating idea associated with the Many-Worlds Interpretation of quantum mechanics.
In a simplified version, different possible outcomes of events can be thought of as existing in separate branches of reality.
Let’s make it much easier.
Imagine you are walking down a road and reach a junction.
You have two choices:
Left ← YOU → Right
You choose left.
But what if, somewhere in another branch of reality, another version of you chooses right?
Now there are two versions of you.
One continues left.
The other continues right.
And from there, every future decision creates another possible branch.
Coffee or tea?
Job A or Job B?
Marriage or no marriage?
Pizza or burger?
Okay, that last decision could potentially create some very serious universes. 🍕😂
How Many Versions of You Could Exist?
Think about how many decisions you make every single day.
Now multiply that by every person on Earth.
If every possible decision created a separate branch of reality, the number of possible universes could become astronomically large.
There could be a version of you who became a doctor.
Another who became an engineer.
Another who became a scientist.
Another who became a famous blogger.
And somewhere, there could even be a version of you who made such terrible decisions that they are currently wondering:
“Where did everything go wrong?” 😂
In this way, every decision could potentially lead to a different version of reality—and every version could continue branching with every new choice.
But Where Are These Universes?
Now comes the really confusing part.
If these alternate realities exist, where exactly are they?
Are they somewhere beyond our universe?
Are they existing alongside us in another dimension?
Or are they not actually “somewhere” in the way we normally imagine physical places?
At present, science has no confirmed way to travel between such hypothetical branches—or even evidence that we could visit another version of ourselves.
But imagine if future technology somehow changed that.
Perhaps one day we could look beyond our own reality and discover an enormous cosmic landscape filled with countless branching universes.
Like an ocean made of realities instead of water droplets.
And somewhere among them…
is another you.
Perhaps they are making the exact same decision you are making right now.
Or perhaps they already made the better one.
Hopefully they didn’t choose pineapple on pizza. 😄
So, Which Version Is the Real You?
Maybe there is only one universe.
Maybe there are countless universes.
Maybe every decision creates another reality.
Or maybe the universe is simply much stranger than our brains are capable of imagining.
We don’t know yet.
But the next time you stand at a crossroads wondering whether to go left or right…
just remember:
Somewhere, another version of you may already be going the other way. 🌌
